‘U.S. News & World Report’ ranks Columbus as one of nation’s best cities for cat owners

Widely known as Ohio’s Cap City, one new study suggests Columbus is also the state’s cat city.

According to U.S. News & World Report study that named the country’s top cities for owning a cat, Columbus is number 20.

The country’s top cities for cats, in case you were wondering, are Los Angeles (first), New York (second) and Chicago (third).

Columbus landed just above Minneapolis, and one spot below Houston.

The U.S. News & World Report study gathered information for the study from pet insurance information from September 2023-March 2024.

The study identified multiple possible trends in cat ownership, noting that—as cats are cheaper and less involved to care for than dogs typically—cities with a higher cost of living, and individuals with more independent lifestyles, may be more likely to own cats over dogs.
