Blackbird Kitchen is an under-the-radar spot serving up feast-worthy food inside Woodlands Tavern, a neighborhood bar located at 1200 W 3rd Ave. I stumbled upon Blackbird Kitchen in 2021 while attending a friend’s comedy show, and I was blown away by their eclectic and vibrant menu.

They have a small menu and an even smaller kitchen, but they create incredible dishes with big flavor in that tiny space. Their core menu offers four appetizers and seven entrees, complemented by very creative specials. Previous specials have included Mediterranean Chicken Wrap, Shrimp Toast, and Grilled Eggplant with Burrata. My go-to’s from the daily menu are:

Traditional Wings: Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in phenomenal house-made sauces or their signature dry rub. Choose from Spicy Garlic, Alabama White, or their Dry Rub. Pair them with Crispy Potato Wedges with rosemary sea salt. On Sundays, these wings are only $1 each—a great deal!

Crunchwrap: An artisan take on the Taco Bell classic. This tortilla wrapped tostada is loaded with rice, cheese, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, red chile aioli, and birria. You can also choose smoked chicken or black beans.

Flat-top Smash Burger: Available with double or triple burger patties, brioche bread, house-made dill pickles, thinly sliced onions, and American cheese. On Wednesdays, enjoy this mouthwatering burger for only $6.

Crispy Birria Tacos: Perfectly prepared birria tacos served with a rich and substantial consommé, two sauces, fresh limes, and carrots. These tacos are loaded with meat and cheese, and they’re great as is, but when you squeeze fresh lime and dip them in consommé, it’s a transcendent bite.

Atomic Fireballs: House-made mac and cheese balls, deep-fried and sauced up. They’re truly impressive, and every Thursday they’re only $4.
Blackbird Kitchen is open Monday through Thursday 4-10 pm, Friday 4-11 pm, Saturday 1-11 pm, and Sunday 1-8 pm. Their food is amazing and Woodlands Tavern offers live performances of music like on 7/14 Kanin Wren’s – Taylor Swift Experience, comedy, and other fun events. They also have a great draft beer selection, cocktails, and a pool table. We want to fly like a blackbird and discover more hidden gems in Columbus. What other spots should we soar to next?
