This East Side sandwich shop released a prank video of tip jar theft; Real police involved

Feed Me Sandwich Kings and local comedian Midrange Martinez created a viral marketing prank that Columbus Police allegedly did not find very funny.

The eatery–located at 1053 E. Main St.–posted a video over the weekend to its Instagram account that showed an individual taking cash from the sandwich store’s tip jar when an employee wasn’t looking, paying for his food with this money and pocketing the rest.

And while it looked convincing to many, it wasn’t actually real.

According to Feed Me Sandwich Kings owner Stafford Lipscomb, he and Midrange Martinez created the video as a prank. And while he planned to disclose this information later, an employee apparently thought it was real, and contacted Columbus Police.

“I was aware, my employees not so much. I received a call and must meet with a detective to explain,” Lipscomb said. “Maybe we need a better opening and closing to the skits.”
