This local big-picture screenwriter is ready to help make your screenplays a reality with a personalized summer workshop

If you—like the rest of us—have ever dreamed of writing and selling your very own movie script, you’re about to get a chance to make it a reality.

That’s because Kate Queen, a professional screenwriter and producer with a docket of Hollywood credits to her name, is ready to teach you how.

Queen, who has received credits for films like “Expired” (2021), “Sally Floss” (2022) and “A Girl I Know” (2022), is holding an intimate six-week workshop to bring out the screenwriter you’ve always wanted to become.

“I spent years getting nowhere. I got so many rejections and spent so much time and money; now I want to help people with everything I’ve learned,” Queen said.

Queen is offering two dates to choose from, Fridays or Saturdays. Classes, which begin on July 22nd or July 23rd, will feature a weekly two-hour lecture on screenwriting topics in addition to a four-hour writing workshop. Throughout the six-week program, Queen will be regularly available to read drafts and offer her insight as students’ scripts take shape. In order to do this, she is accepting a maximum of 10 students per class.

“This is going to be my full-time job this summer,” she said, “I’ll be reading everything and offering one-on-one time with students throughout the six weeks.”

The decades of work Queen invested into becoming a screenwriter also yielded a full slate of industry tips for how to thrive in the profession, and she’s ready to share those, too.

“I want to focus on important skills that I picked up, like how to make money and network after the writing is done,” she said. “There are so many little things you can do to give yourself a major advantage.”

The workshop will cost $3,500 for the entire six weeks. The in-person component will be held at Office Evolution in Worthington, every Friday or Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Writers interested in attending the class can email Queen at [email protected].
