With millions of LED lights, this massive holiday display is one of the best in the city, and one of the best for kids

In a crowded field of holiday light displays, it’s difficult to tell which one you should visit with the kids.

While there are other strong options in Central Ohio, Wildlights, the annual holiday display put on by the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, is consistent, and consistently kid-friendly, every year.

Wildlights, which opens today and is now in its 34th year, will be held until Jan. 1.

The annual event will be held after-hours at the Columbus Zoo until the new year. It will run from 5-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 5-10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Millions of LED lights will fill the massive seasonal display, and this year will also be highlighted by the new Sounds of the Season holiday musical performances, the giant Sparkling Spruce, and the new 12 Days of Wildlights train ride, which is themed after the traditional song “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”

Visitors are encouraged to come early if they want to see animals like gorillas or bonobos, as they tend to sleep in the evenings. Other animals, like the manatees, sea lions, reptiles and more can be found in their indoor enclosures.
