Car crashes into Broad Street business, narrowly missing long-standing pizzeria

A car crashed into the front of an east side karate studio over the weekend, causing extensive damage and narrowly missing a nearby pizzeria.

The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 19, when a vehicle struck the front entrance of Excel Karate Systems LLC, a martial arts studio located at 3018 E. Broad St.

According to police, one person was hospitalized after the incident and was listed in stable condition. It’s currently unclear what caused the crash.

An Excel Karate employee told 614Now that the studio will likely remain closed for at least the next few weeks. She believes Excel could reopen in January, although this timeline may change.

The martial arts spot is next door to Joe’s Pizza, which is located at 3020 E. Broad St. A Joe’s employee told 614Now that the pizzeria was not damaged in the incident, and is currently operating under its normal hours of business.
