Find out which Columbus businesses made a recent ‘Food & Wine’ list of the country’s top ice cream spots

It may be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop eating ice cream. Especially now that–according to a recent article from “Food & Wine”–two scoop shops available in Columbus (and one based here) cracked the national publication’s list of best ice cream spots in the country.

The story, which was published on Sept. 29, lists 35 different ice cream shops. One of them is the iconic Columbus-based business Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, which came in at number 15 (although it’s unclear whether or not the entries are ranked).

“Jeni Britton Bauer creates some of the country’s best Philadelphia-style ice creams (meaning they don’t contain any eggs), sorbets, and frozen yogurts. Among the shop’s best-selling flavors are Butterscotch Popcorn, Everything Bagel, and Wedding Cake,” the article reads.

It also listed Jeni’s Bombastix Sundae Cone as their “must-have flavor” from the Columbus spot.

Additionally, another ice cream shop that isn’t based in Columbus but boasts many locations in Ohio’s Capital City made the “Food & Wine” list: Graeter’s, which is based in Cincinnati but operates multiple central Ohio locations. Graeter’s took the 13th spot in the list.

“Graeter’s custard-based ice cream, made just two gallons at a time, is slowly swirled and folded into itself in a French pot so no air gets whipped in. The technique makes for an extra-dense and creamy ice cream — each pint weighs almost a pound,” the article reads.
