Two different Columbus design groups take home highest honor in International awards

You may know the boundary-pushing Columbus artists behind Planthropy for their unique “living walls,” which erode the boundaries between art, design and gardening.

Now, you can also refer to owners Jessie Laux-Creath and Michael Creath as award-winning muralists, and you wouldn’t be wrong.

On Jan. 19, the  local artisans were awarded a Platinum Award—the highest designation—in the Design category of the 2024 International Plantscape Awards.

“Proud, humbled and over the top excited,” Plantrhopy said of the award in a social media post over the weekend.

Planthropy took home the award for a custom mural made out of our moss that was created for Franklinton’s Gravity development.

“This piece was the most intricate one we have ever made. We used a combination of real and abstract shapes and icons to pull together this one-of-kind mossterpiece,” the Columbus business’ statement reads.

You can see the winning mural below.

Planthropy wasn’t the only local business to take home International Plantscape Awards this year, either. Central Ohio’s Oakland Green Interiors also took home a Platinum award for their work creating a giant floral hairpiece atop the subject of another mural in the Gravity development, which you can see below. Oakland green Interiors, which is a division of Oakland Nursery, also took home seven other Gold awards.
