Columbus Mayor featured in ‘New York Times’ story

In a recent New York Times feature, Columbus’ very own, Mayor Andrew Ginther, joined eight other mayors from across the U.S. in a candid discussion about hurdles currently facing the nation, and how to overcome them.

Despite these challenges, they shared their cities’ struggles with issues like violence, climate change, and housing instability, while also expressing optimism for their communities.

Mayor Ginther highlighted Columbus’ rapid growth as a double-edged sword, identifying the housing supply crisis as the city’s foremost challenge. He emphasized the importance of local governance, asserting that communities know best how to tackle their unique issues.

A highlight from the article was Mayor Ginther’s hypothetical question to presidential candidates in a debate scenario: “What are your concrete plans to tackle the housing crisis in America today?”

For visitors to Columbus, Ginther recommended the Center of Science and Industry (COSI), a museum where he and his daughter have made great memories.

And here’s a delightful tidbit about our city’s leader: when he’s not steering Columbus, Ginther indulges in a good read. His recent favorite is “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson, a captivating narrative about the Great Migration.

The New York Times piece also featured other notable mayors from across the USA, including:

  • Mayor Quinton Lucas of Kansas City, MO
  • Mayor Ashleigh Aitken of Anaheim, CA
  • Mayor John Giles of Mesa, AZ
  • Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch of Michigan City, IN
  • Mayor Xay Khamsyvoravong of Newport, RI
  • Mayor David Holt of Oklahoma City, OK
  • Mayor Paige Cognetti of Scranton, PA
  • Mayor Jane Castor of Tampa, FL
