200 year-old Ohio restaurant and inn catches fire, closed until further notice

A historical Ohio eatery and inn is closed until further notice after a fire broke out in the more than 200 year-old building housing it.

According to a social media post from the concept, Hammel House Restaurant & Inn caught fire late last week, and will be closed indefinitely.

The historic spot is located at 121 S. Main St. in Waynesville, approximately an hour southwest of Downtown Columbus.

“We are closed until further notice,” the post reads. “A huge thank you to the Wayne Township Fire Department, Spring Valley TWP Fire Department, Clearcreek Fire District for their quick response, we are so thankful for you.”

The restaurant and inn noted that its neighbor initially reported the fire, although it’s currently unclear what caused it.

Hammel House did not comment on the extent of the damage, or offer a timeline on when the historic spot plans to reopen, but it will continue to post updates to its social media accounts.
