Police warn public to lock doors & windows as search underway for wanted felon accused of shooting unhoused person

Last night, students and personnel at Ohio State University were warned by police in a public safety notice to lock their doors and windows and to not walk alone, as a search is underway for a wanted felon who’s been accused of shooting an unhoused man.

Around 8:30 p.m. last night, a man suffering from a gunshot wound waved down a university bus on West Campus, seeking help. The victim is an unhoused man, and he was transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, according to the alert.

OSU Police said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the man, and another man ,who the victim identified as Richard Patridge.

Patridge is already a wanted felon on other charges, specifically for kidnapping his former girlfriend at gunpoint early September. Patridge remained at large for this incident, and now, police are searching for him yet again.

Columbus police and SWAT helped OSU police sweep the area and search for Patridge. The division is requesting that anyone who spots the suspect to please call 911 and avoid any confrontation with the man, pictured below:
