Largest bread loaf sculpture, strongest duct tape and most people opening drinks once: Check out Ohio’s weirdest world records
Ohio State Football, Cedar Point and the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame. Ohio is home to a lot of interesting attractions. Did you know that it’s also home to dozens of world records, some of which are unbelievably specific, or just borderline strange?
We’re rounding up a handful of Ohio’s most unusual world records–according to World Records Academy–many of which you probably haven’t heard of before.
1. World’s Largest Bread Loaf Sculpture (Urbana)
Located in Urbana, Ohio, outside of the American Pan Factory (located at 417 E. Water St.), sits the world’s largest bread loaf sculpture. The exact provenance of the sculpture isn’t known, but the fiberglass and steel sculpture was refurbished in 2016.
2. World’s Strongest Duct Tape (Avon)
Located in Avon, Ohio, T-Rex Brute Force duct tape can holds 700 pounds, which has earned it the title of world’s strongest duct tape by World Records Academy and the 2024 Guinness Book of World Records.
3. World’s Largest Dog Photo Shoot (Warrensville Heights)
Over the course of five hours on an August day in 2019, more than 350 dogs were photographed at the PAWSitively Pinecrest dog carnival. It came one dog photo away from tripling the previous record of 123 dog photos, set in the Phillipnes in 2017.

4. Most Layers in a Sandwich (Cleveland)
In 2014, Cleveland’s Sugardale Foods created a massive, 40-layer fluffernutter and bacon sandwich. These 40 layers gave the food company the world record for most layers in a sandwich. According to Worlds Record Academy, the creation used 160 slices of bacon, 42 slices of bread, five pounds of peanut butter and three pounds of marshmallow fluff.
5. World’s Largest Our Lady of Guadalupe Statue (Windsor)
At 33 feet tall, the Our Lady of Guadalupe statue located in Windsor, Ohio is the largest in the world. Created over 10,000 hours by Richard Hyslin, his students and volunteers, the statue is made up of more than 450,000 individual mosaic tiles.
6. Most People Opening Drink Cans Simultaneously (Sidney)
You know the satisfying crack when you open a can of soda? Imagine that multiplied by nearly 2,500. Celebrating Shelby County’s bicentennial in 2019, the Shelby County-Sidney Bicentennial Committee organized an event that saw 2,344 people come together and open drink cans at the same time.
7. World’s Largest Ping Pong Paddle (Columbus)
This collection is steering away from central Ohio in general to find world records that you likely haven’t heard of before, but many may not know that the world’s largest ping pong paddle is located right here in Downtown Columbus, inside of Pins Mechanical Co., which is located at 141 N. 4th St. It’s 11’6” tall and 6’5” wide.
8. Most People Carrying Bottles on Their Heads (Eastlake)
If you thought the end was going to get less weird, you were sorely mistaken. In 2014, 474 students and staff members from 10 northeastern Ohio schools walked around Classic Park–a baseball stadium–in Eastlake, Ohio. It set a very strange world record, but it was also for a good cause, as the event supported schools in Africa in need of clean water.
