Novelist Zadie Smith to talk about race, culture at the Wex
Zadie Smith’s talk brought by the Wexner Center was so popular it had to be moved into the nearby Mershon Auditorium. She is the author of “White Teeth” one of her best known books which was also named to TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005. Born in London she has moved to the states to teach at NYU’s creative writing program and by her early 20s she was already winning awards for her first book. “I was expected to be some expert on multicultural affairs, as if multiculturalism is a genre of fiction or something, whereas it’s just a fact of life,” she told the Guardian. Her talk is titled “A Conversation on Race, Writing, and Culture.”
The event is free and begins at 5 p.m.

Smith is an English poet, novelist and short story writer and is a tenured professor at New York University’s Creative Writing Program (and she’s yet to hit her 40s). She is known for her novel “White Teeth” which focuses on wartime friends. The event is set for Nov. 13.
