Former OSU football coach Earle Bruce dies at age 87

An Ohio State Buckeye legend has passed away.

At the ripe age of 87, former football head coach Earle Bruce died early Friday morning.

This is the statement from Bruce’s daughters, per NB4i:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Coach Earle Bruce, early this morning, Friday, April 20. He was a great man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and a respected coach to many. Our family will miss him dearly, but we take solace in the belief that he is in a better place and reunited with his beloved wife, Jean. We thank you for your prayers and good wishes.

His loving daughters: Lynn, Michele, Aimee and Noel”

Bruce led the Buckeye brigade from 1979 to 1987 which included eight bowl game trips concluding in a 5-3 bowl record.

A few other accomplishments Bruce achieved include four Big Ten titles and dotting the “I” in 2016.

“My mentor and friend, thank you for all you did for The Ohio State University, and all those players and coaches whose lives you made a difference in,” wrote current Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer on Twitter.
