Nationwide Children’s Hospital knows how to keep kids safe: new guidelines for infants and COVID-19
Nationwide Children’s Hospital has released some additional guidance for those looking to keep their children safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This advice includes never using a mask on a child younger than two-years-old.
“Baby’s airways are smaller, so breathing through a mask is even harder on them,” they note, adding that babies are also incapable of removing a mask themselves if they are in distress.

Instead, infants should remain home as much as possible. When it is necessary to leave the house, trips should be kept short. The baby’s carrier, but not the baby, should be covered with a blanket, but only when the carrier is in view and not when the carrier is in a car.
There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted through breast milk, but those with symptoms of the disease should take extra caution in washing their hands and wearing a mask when feeding their child.
