German Village eatery gets big refresh

When Chapman’s Eat Market celebrates its grand re-opening May 21, the eatery will usher in a host of changes both to the physical space and the guests’ experience.

“It’s a huge change for us, and we’re extremely excited about it,” said Chef and Owner BJ Lieberman. “It really will be like opening an all-new restaurant.”

Chapman’s will close tomorrow, May 18 through Thursday, May 20. When it reopens Friday, the tasting menu will transition to an a la carte menu, featuring favorites from past tasting menus as well as new summer creations. Lieberman said the switch will make the eatery operate more like a typical restaurant.

“Previously, the tasting menu was our only option to dine in,” he said.

Seating capacity will also expand, since the eatery will now be able to once again offer bar seating. The previous seating capacity for the tasting menu was 24 guests. The new seating capacity will be 44 guests. Chapman’s will also add another 16 seats on the patio as soon as the city approves its application, Lieberman said. The eatery will accept some reservations for tables, while the rest will be held for walk-ins. The bar will also be available on a first come, first served basis.

“Tables will still be distanced, but not as extremely as we did for the last eight months,” he said.

Chapman’s private dining room will still be a tasting room experience, and guests can email [email protected] for more information.

When guests visit the space, they’ll notice other physical changes beyond additional seating.

“The exterior of the building got a beautiful facelift with a new paint job and flower boxes,” Lieberman said. “We’ve updated decor on the interior as well as built a new reception area with a host stand and upgraded server stations.”
