A Bite of Bliss: Where to get the best burgers in town

Sarah Sole

Columbus, we know sometimes nothing will do but a burger.

There’s just something about that juicy meat patty on a toasted bun that speaks to us on a spiritual level, you know?

To find our city’s best burgers, we turned to this year’s ColumBEST reader surveys, in which we asked you to share your top eats, drinks, and more.

So check out our top three traditional burgers in Columbus, as chosen by you, dear reader. And then grab that coat and choose one for dinner. Or lunch. Or breakfast. Any time is burger time in our book.

Thurman Cafe

Thurman Cafe took top spot for best traditional burger with 43.6% of your vote, Columbus. We’re not surprised. These guys don’t mess around: Burger patties weigh in at 12 ounces prior to cooking. With favorites like the Thurmanator and the Jaeger Burger, the outfit is a staple among local foodies.

Five Guys

Coming in at a strong second with 32.5% of your vote, Five Guys remains a reliable source for an All-American burger. Originating in Arlington, VA in 1986, Five Guys expanded in Virginia and Maryland before opening up franchising to the rest of the country in 2003. We’re just happy they found a home in Columbus.

Swensons

Swensons earned a respectable third place, with 23.9% of your vote. Whether you’re getting the Galley Boy or something else, ordering a milkshake for dessert is non-negotiable.

Which is your top burger in Columbus? Was it one of the three ColumBEST, or someplace else? Make sure to share your pick in the comments below.
