Barrio in Grandview: Come for the tacos, stay for the margaritas

Julian Foglietti

Barrio, the Cleveland-based taco restaurant, has opened its first restaurant in Columbus– possibly in answer to Condado’s recent expansion to the Cleveland market.

The two restaurants pull off similar concepts relying on checklist style menus, graffitied walls, and a dizzying array of margaritas choices.

Barrio’s Columbus location is on the corner of 5th and Grandveiw in the building previously occupied by The Winking Lizard Tavern. With a sprawling shaded patio and outdoor bar, the new restaurant is a perfect spot to sip some margaritas while battling the summer heat.

The inside of the restaurant has ample seating with plenty of space between tables for social distancing and features dividers around tables to make it extra COVID-friendly.

Part of the draw of Barrio is customization–the checklist style method of ordering allows you to build your own tacos. A second menu called El Jefe’s Selections, contains some restaurant favorites like the El Sully, a double shell taco featuring chorizo, cheese, pico de gallo and a special Barrio sauce.

There for the drinks? The El Diablo margarita features a little kick with the addition of a cayenne rim. Or try the Marigold margarita while it lasts. This seasonal drink features a strawberry-pear puree and a blood orange wedge. Enjoy half off margarita happy hour Monday-Friday from 4-7 p.m.

Swing by Barrio in Grandview to satisfy your next taco craving and see how it stacks up to other local favorites. Check out their menu here.
