New Clintonville boutique opens Saturday

If you can’t get out west this summer, the next best thing just might be a trip to the Brass Hand, which opens 11 a.m. Aug. 7 at 3327 N. High St.

“The Brass Hand is a slice of the desert,” said Owner Heather McCloud. “Think Sedona meets Palm Springs, in the heart of Columbus.”

McCloud said her shop specializes in cacti, plant-based apothecary goods, and vintage southwestern home decor such as pottery, mugs, and textiles.

“The shop will be affordable, offer easy-to-grow plants, community events, and rotating residencies of local artists and makers,” she said.

Much of the cacti found in the shop was sourced by hand from Arizona: McCloud flies out to her birthplace, Phoenix, to drive them all back to Columbus. The shop also has a special potting room where guests can pot their own plants with hand-blended Arizona soil, locally made planters, and plant jewelry. McCloud plans to host pay-what-you-can potting classes, bath bomb-making classes, and other events in the space.

“We are an inclusive and safe space for all, and truly want to help folks learn to grow and propagate cacti,” she said.

Shop hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
