Dreaming of a Getaway: Book your stay at first cabin from A Carpenter’s Son

You likely know A Carpenter’s Son for the custom commercial woodwork they’ve done at high-profile Columbus businesses like North Market Bridge Park, Rockmill Brewing, and Hot Chicken Takeover.

Starting this spring though, the Sunbury-based woodworkers are embarking on a whole new venture known as A Carpenter’s Son Getaways, a collection of beautiful central Ohio vacation properties furnished and designed by the business.

A Carpenter’s Son Getaways officially opened event bookings for its first cabin, the Hillside, which will open its door May 1.

The outfit made sure to go big with their first effort in vacation real estate.

Renovations are underway on their first rental property, a 5,000 square-foot, log cabin-style home located in Butler near the Mohican-Memorial State Forest. Capable of sleeping up to 22 people (20 in the main house and two in an adjacent, western-themed bunkhouse), the property features a beautiful stone fireplace, a swimming pool, a saltwater hot tub, and of course, plenty of handcrafted wooden furniture from A Carpenter’s Son.

The cornerstone of the home will be a massive 20-person communal table cut from a single piece of walnut. “It’s one of the largest single pieces we’ve ever seen,” Scheutzow said.

Additionally, on display throughout the house will be products and artwork from a litany of Central Ohio makers.

“It’s going to feature a lot of artisans and craftsmen in different projects like vintage rugs or these great concrete countertops,” Scheutzow said. “We want it to be a collection of central Ohio craftsmen doing their best work so we can share it all with anyone who comes to stay.”

And while the Hillside will be the first ACS Getaway spot, it definitely won’t be the last. According to Scheutzow, more properties will be purchased later in the year, as the new venture slowly expands its holdings in central Ohio. And if you can’t wrangle up a group of your 21 closest friends to go in on this spot for a long weekend, don’t worry, because there will be getaways for a variety of occasions and group sizes.

“This is a huge place, so we’re going to have smaller themed getaways too. Whether it’s a rustic lake house or a mid-century modern bungalow, we want to have places people can escape to in the central Ohio area,” Scheutzow said.
