Drop your old pumpkins from a 100-foot fire ladder at this Central Ohio event

Jack McLaughlin

Once November rolls around and we’re all stuck with a bunch of old pumpkins, what’s the best way to dispose of them?

While you could just throw them away, and composting is always an option, none of these sounds very fun. Especially when you could be hucking them from a 100-foot drop-off?

If this last option sounds like the right choice, you’re in luck: The Great Pumpkin Drop is returning for 2021.

The event will take place on Nov. 7 at the Marysville Fire Department, located at 16300 County Home Rd. Guests will also be invited to explore fire trucks, check out an on-site bounce house, or refuel with some fall treats.

The pumpkin drop remains the headline event, however. Marysville firefighters will take visitors’ pumpkins (up to 40 pounds), bring them to the top of an extended fire ladder, and let them watch as they splatter on the ground. Technically, they’re aiming for a barrel of water, but the pumpkins miss their mark a good deal of the time, which makes things that much more interesting . You can even purchase pumpkins to drop at the event.

In case anyone was wondering about when to take Halloween decorations down this year, they likely found an answer: After you toss them from 100 feet in the air.
