Sandman Gourmet opens new pizza concept

Jack McLaughlin

Sandman Gourmet has been serving up cafe-style fare out of their Westerville storefront–located at 440 Polaris Pkwy.– for nearly 20 years.

And now they’re pivoting to pizza.

Last month, Sandman Gourmet Deli officially became Sandman Gourmet Pizza.

“I’ve been doing this a long time, and I looked at this as a chance to really get back into the kitchen,” said owner Rich Rores.

According to Rores, Sandman Gourmet’s new pie recipes were painstakingly developed, as they tested over 100 different dough formulations. The pies utilize premium ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes, high-quality cheese, and Ezzo pepperoni

And all that effort shows in the final product.

“They’re freaking delicioius,” Rores said. “It really is a great product.”

Their pizza is offered in a thin, Columbus-style crust, and a pan variety that he says is a shade thicker than classic east coast pies.

Out of the three Sandman Gourmet locations in the Columbus area, at least two of them will become Sandman Gourmet Pizza. The eatery’s Westerville location has already transitioned to the new concept, and Rores says once their downtown spot–located at 180 E. Broad St.–is able to reopen, it will become another Sandman Gourmet Pizza.
