Secret Menu Spotlight: Getaway Brewing

Here at (614), we’re big fans of secret menus, in whatever form they come. Not only do they let us try some of the coolest, and oftentimes weirdest, new dishes around, they help keep our favorite local spots fresh and exciting, too. It also doesn’t hurt that anything secret is, well, just kind of cool.

So welcome to Secret Menu Spotlight, a new weekly web series that profiles all the coolest Columbus menu items that you never knew existed.

Location: Getaway Brewing Co.

Secret item(s): The Kirdy Paw

Remember when you were a kid, and for some reason the best-tasting soda from the fountain was a combination of all of them?

This week’s secret menu item actually started in a similar fashion.

When employees of the recently-opened Getaway Brewing (a Seventh Son concept) in Dublin were setting up the taproom’s draft lines, bartender Kirsten Hardesty decided to combine all three flavors of Seventh Son’s hard seltzer, called Kitty Paw, into one glass.

“It was a happy accident, really,” said Sara Hollabaugh, marketing director for Seventh Son. “I don’t think  anyone expected it to taste so good.”

According to Hollabaugh, the drink blends pineapple tangerine, raspberry, and citrus Kitty Paw flavors together.

The resulting muddled pink beverage was named in honor of Hardesty, who sometimes goes by Kirdy. Its medley of tropical flavors have already made it a regular favorite at the Getaway taproom.

And even though other Columbus establishments aren’t likely to know the drink as a Kirdy Paw, many do carry Kitty Paw hard seltzer. And if that’s the case, well, you know what to do: ask for a little bit of everything.
