Tupelo Doughnuts announces month-long closure

Dessert options in Columbus will look just a bit slimmer until next month.

Tupelo Doughnuts, the artisan donut vendor operating a food truck and kitchenshop at 2680 Billingsley Rd., will remain closed throughout the month of November.

Tupelo Doughnuts announced the closure yesterday on its social media pages. The Columbus spot cited COVID-related difficulties and staffing concerns as reasons for the hiatus.

“This week, as we began planning for the upcoming month and our own holiday seasons, one thing became clear to me – we need a break,” said owner Kim Payne in a statement. “Like so many small businesses, the past 18 months have been incredibly hard for us. Our team came together to innovate, adapt, and keep the magic of our donuts alive, but, truth be told, it has taken a toll.”

Payne also noted that the staff of the business—which is now down to five part-time employees—needs time to recoup after regularly turning in long hours.
