What’s on Your Plate: New Dishes to Try Now

Jack McLaughlin

Dear Columbus: we finally made it to the summer. During some of those long, dark days of COVID, I’m sure it seemed like this time would never come, but here we are.

The best way that we can think to celebrate? Indulging in some great local eats, of course.

And thankfully, we’re never wanting for those here. While it’s far from exclusive, we’ve put together a list highlighting some of our favorite new menu items from across the city, and we’ve made a point to feature a few new eateries, and some old favorites as well. Here’s what’s on your plate.

Black Box Fix, OMG Philly

After months in the making, the cajun and comfort-food focused Black Box Fix has finally opened shop in Easton Town Center. This means their iconic (and enormous) sandwiches are now available in Columbus. This one comes in several different versions, but we opted for the original, which combines grilled chicken and creole shrimp with mushrooms, onions, peppers, and swiss, topped with their signature Yum sauce.

Borgata Pizza Cafe, Toasted Ravioli

Don’t let the name confuse you, there is no toasting involved here. A St. Louis staple that (shamefully) hasn’t caught on widely outside of the Show Me state, the dish actually features a liberal portion of breaded and deep-fried succulent Borgata ravioli with a side of red sauce. This mouthwatering appetizer, alongside Borgata’s new pizza bread, is available now at Budd Dairy Food Hall.

Lan Viet, Bò Kho “Birria”

While Lan Viet has been a fixture in Columbus for over a decade, the eatery made a name for itself offering up authentic northern Vietnamese dishes. So while their riff on the Mexican favorite Birria is a surprise, it’s one we can absolutely get behind. Served with their pho or as a french dip, this new dish (available at their Bridge Park location) features braised beef simmered in what Lan Viet refers to as “Viet-Mexican” spices, such as guajillos, arbol, ancho, clove, cinnamon, lemongrass, coriander, and more.

Eden Burger, Poutine Loaded Fries

Anyone who said vegan eats can’t be just as delicious as carnivorous fare sure looks like a fool right now. New—and only available through the end of the week—from Eden Burger is their Poutine Loaded fries. And don’t call this just a side dish, either. These fries are smothered in onion and mushroom gravy and topped off with warm chunks of vegan mozzarella cheese in addition to half of a meatless burger patty.
