It’s king cake season! Here’s where you can find your own in Columbus
Happy Mardi Gras, Columbus! While the holiday doesn’t exactly carry the same amount of weight it does down in Louisiana, one of the things it does bring to the Midwest is king cake.
This sweet treat is typically baked into an oval shape and topped with icing plus purple, yellow and green sprinkles. While some ingredients can vary, the cake typically contains cinnamon, sugar and pecans, and some compare the taste to an indulgent cinnamon roll. Eaten on or around Mardi Gras, king cake also sometimes contains a small baby figurine, a reference to the story of Jesus and the Three Kings.
If you’re the person to find the baby in the cake, you’re deemed “king.” While some say this brings good luck, it also means you’re tasked with hosting next year’s king cake party.
