Polaris-area South American eatery announces closure

Jack McLaughlin

There are only a limited number of authentic South American restaurants currently operating in Central Ohio, and the area, and one of the handful in the area has announced it will close its doors soon.

The Porch Ohio, a Venezuelan eatery located at 5808 Columbus Pike, posted a statement to its social media accounts at the end of August notifying customers that it will be closing sometime this month.

“After several weeks reviewing all possible scenarios or alternatives, we have the sad news that The Porch will close its doors,” the statement reads. “We opened just with the start of a pandemic and the effects are still being felt, it has been almost 3 years of constant challenges but in which we have learned and above all we have met wonderful people.”

The statement said the restaurant will announce soon what day in September it will formally close.

It appears that fans of The Porch will still be able to get a version of their Venezualan food fix, however. On Sept. 7, the restaurant teased a new take and bake service that, according to its website, will be debuting on Oct. 1.
