These are the newly-opened Columbus restaurants you need to try this summer

Jack McLaughlin

We’re in the dog days of summer, which means patios and frozen drinks are available in spades. To take advantage of the warm weather while we’re in the thick of it, we’ve put together a list of some of the most exciting Columbus restaurants that have recently opened. Check our list from last month for more ideas, and get ready for great food.

Subourbon Southern Kitchen

This new eatery and bourbon-focused bar from the owner of Alqueria may be serving Lowcountry fare, but it’s near the top of our list of new restaurants to try, with comfort food meeting Cajun and Carolina classics.

Mandrake

This new spot had us at “Short North rooftop bar.” Finally open, the swanky new spot from the owner of TownHall offers food, craft cocktails, and plenty of great views.

The Patty Shop

The Jamaican beef patty trend has arrived in Columbus, and you don’t want to miss out. This unpretentious King-Lincoln Bronzeville spot offer authentic Jamaican beef patties from owner and former New York resident James Simmons. Just don’t ask for dipping sauces, because Simmons insists his patties meant to be eaten without them.

Pizza Nerds

What’s better than a new pizzeria? How about a new 90s-themed pizzeria. Pizza Nerds offers a unique crust style that’s somewhere between thicker Pennsylvania pies and thin Columbus-style pizza. Their cereal cookies are as fun and they are delicious as well.

Torchy’s Tacos

This popular Texas-based taco chain took a winding route to its first brick and mortar eatery in Columbus–after opening a ghost kitchen that is now closed–but we sure are glad they’re finally arrived.

Jhapali Kitchen & Bar

Because we always want more options for momo here in Columbus, Jhapali Kitchen & Bar is a unique new eatery to keep on the radar. Opened inside Pickerington’s GN International Grocery, the largest Nepali-owned grocery store in the country, the new restaurant serves authentic Nepali fare and more.

Junkyard Dogs

Because summer is hot dog season, although we’d make an argument every season is, Junkyard Dogs should make your list of spots to try while the weather’s still warm. The new concept comes from Borgata Pizza Cafe owner Ed Bisconti and QFM96 host Jerry Elliot.
