This former Dublin City Schools “problem student” turned chef is repaying his teachers in cheesecake
“I did not burst into flames upon walking back into Scioto. Was pretty nervous about that happening,” Jon Paton said about his return to Dublin Scioto High School.
Only this time, when he walked through the doors of the principal’s office (the same principal who was in charge of the school when he graduated in 2004), it wasn’t to learn about how many days of detention he would be receiving, it was to give back to the teacher who had a formative experience on his life.
Paton is the owner of Fit, Fast, Fresh, a Columbus-based meal prep service. He teamed with former Dublin City Schools alumni Alicia Hindman, the owner of The Buckeye Lady, and The Cheesecake Girl owner Samantha Strange to deliver free food to every Dublin Scioto school staff member.

“It was really great to see some of my former teachers, my wrestling coaches who really played a pivotal role in my life, even if I didn’t realize at the time,” Paton said. “The message was, from me to the teachers: ‘Hey thank you for caring so much and putting so much time and effort into a challenging student.’”
Each staff member received a Fit, Fresh, Fast meal, a buckeye and piece of cheesecake.
What’s more, Patton, Hindman and Strange plan to expand their program with a visit to Dublin City Schools Emerald Campus next month, and hope to visit more in the near future, with free food in tow each time.
