It’s no shock to us that COSI is one of the Columbus-area’s most special attractions, and now the local museum has taken home some pretty impressive hardware to prove this on a national scale.

After being named a finalist by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for a 2023 National Medal of Museum and Library Service, COSI was one of four museums from across the country to win this year’s award.

Winners in the museum category include:

Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum (Buffalo, Wyoming)

Museum of Discovery and Science (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

Riverside Art Museum (Riverside, California)

In total, there were four winner in the Museums category and four additional winners in the Libraries category. There were 30 total finalists for this year’s award, which were named in April.

“The staff at these inspiring institutions dedicate themselves each day to supporting the health and growth of their communities, serving in their unique individual ways as centers of excellence and passion. We look forward to honoring their accomplishments in Washington, D.C. this summer,” said IMLS Director Director Crosby Kemper in a press release.
