After more than 60 years, this Columbus eatery will close its doors for good

Since 1959, when it opened on the far south side of the city, Rice Bowl has served as a Columbus mainstay for Chinese cuisine. But now, after surviving an ownership change in 1980 and a location change just over a decade later, the long-standing Chinese eatery has announced its plans to close for good.

According to a statement posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page yesterday, Rice Bowl will be closing its doors for good at the end of the month.

Part of the statement reads:

As we prepare to close, we will be selling whatever inventory we have left in stock. We want to make sure that nothing goes to waste and that our loyal customers have the opportunity to purchase their favorite dishes one last time. Please note that due to limited staffing, we ask for your patience during this process.

We appreciate your patronage over the years and want to thank you for your continued support. It has been an honor to serve you, and we will always cherish the memories we have made with our customers.

Thank you for your support over the years.

It’s currently unclear why the eatery has decided to close its doors, and Rice Bowl could not be reached for comment by the time this was story published.

While it’s also unclear if the eatery will close after service on May 31, or if it has a specific date near the end of May assigned for the closure, Rice Bowl’s statement noted it will remain open for carryout Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., and will be open for dine-in Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Originally located in the Great Southern Shopping Center, which is located at 3711 S. High St., the eatery moved to its current home, which is located at 2300 S. High St., in 1991.
