After second shutdown petition, city attorney files lawsuit against campus-area bar, hopes to close it permanently

Following a second public petition seeking to close the bar and a lawsuit from City Attorney Zachary Klein, Jack’s Corner Pub has closed its doors, at least until its Sept. 11 court date.

Jack’s Corner Pub, which is located at 2480 Summit St., originally drew the frustration of some nearby residents after a gunfight spilled into Summit Street from the establishment in March of 2022.

A local resident named Collin Ferris authored a Change.org petition in the spring of 2022 to close Jack’s. In late July of this year, after a shooting that resulted in the death of 23 year-old Nasir Reid, Ferris authored a second Change.org petition hoping to close Jack’s Corner Pub permanently.

“I was really hoping that I’d never have to do this again–create another petition to close this bar. However, in light of last night’s shooting and resulting homicide, I’m left with no choice. I cannot stay silent. WE cannot stay silent. We as a community must unite and take action to end this uncontrollable gun violence that has repeatedly wreaked havoc on the So Hud and surrounding communities,” the petition reads.

614Now spoke to Jack’s owner Roy Walls in April of 2022, who said the establishment had been trying to stem nuisance incidents by closing earlier and installing cameras. Walls couldn’t be reached for comment by the time this story was published.

Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein has become involved as well. On Aug. 24, Klein filed a lawsuit against Jack’s Corner Pub, seeking to have it declared a public nuisance and to have the bar closed permanently.

According to the lawsuit, there have been 38 calls for service to the bar since 2021, including reports of discharging firearms, fights, overdoses and vehicle thefts.

A hearing is scheduled for Sept. 11.
