Another iconic Ohio snack brand has purchased the rights to Mikesell’s chips and begun making them

Earlier this month, the Dayton-based chip brand Mikesell’s announced it would close after more than 110 years.

But if you were thinking that was the end of the longstanding Ohio snack brand, think again.

Yesterday, another well-known Ohio potato chip producer, Conn’s Potato Chips Co., announced in a written statement that it had acquired the brand rights to Mikesell’s, and that it plans to begin production of the chips, using the original Mikesell’s recipes.

“Conn’s is excited about this opportunity. The licensing agreement will allow us to use the decades old recipes and traditions of Mikesell’s to continue to deliver the quality snack food products consumers have come to expect and enjoy, especially the loyal fans of Mikesell’s products,” Conn’s owner and president Jonathan George said in a press release. “This opportunity is a perfect fit with our processes and regional presence. Distribution will be provided by independent operators in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, and consumers will soon be able to make online purchases.”

The statement noted Conn’s plans to create Mikesell’s-branded products from its Zanesville production facility. The statement said Conn’s is “working to quickly restock retail shelf space” of Mikesell’s snacks, with a current emphasis on potato chips and puffcorn.

And it appears they’ve wasted little time in doing so. According to a social media post from Conn’s this morning, the first Mikesell’s-branded chips have already been created at their Zanesville facility.

“Our packing room Supervisor Tomorrow and our head Fryer Technician Mel proudly displaying the first Mikesell’s bag of chips off the line at our Conn’s Zanesville plant,” the post, which shows a photo of two Conn’s employees holding a bag of Mikesell’s chips, reads.
