The mandated 12 a.m. closure for mobile food vendors in the Short North is no more.

At a City Council meeting last night, Councilmembers voted unanimously to repeal the 12 a.m. curfew imposed on mobile food vendors in the Short North that was originally approved by the Council on May 22.

According to Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin, the May 22 approval was intended as a temporary measure only, in order to help stem incidents of violence in the area.

“Food carts are not the cause of violence in the Short North. It’s that simple,” said Councilmember Emmanuel Remy.

Moving forward, food trucks and carts will be required to register at Streetfoodfinder.com, and will have to choose one of 13 previously-approved sites to set up at each evening.
