Patrons worried local bar & grill is closing due to sign on door – here’s what happened

On August 9th, many loyal patrons of Harrison’s on Third were concerned about two signs they saw posted on the door, saying that Harrison’s would be temporarily closed due to a license suspension by the tax commissioner, and another sign saying they would just be temporarily closed for reasons not explained.

All is good in the Harrison West neighborhood, though! The owner explained that he purchased Harrison’s from his previous partners, who had back taxes he didn’t know about. They were paid immediately, and Harrison’s is back in business.

The second sign on their door about the closure was due to more exciting circumstances; a new restaurant, Lefty’s Kitchen, is completely taking over Harrison’s kitchen space and creating a new concept.

“We got rid of Harrison’s old menu, and we now have an entirely different one. It’s going to be different styles of ‘bar food,’ and everything on the menu can be made be vegan, too, if it doesn’t sound like it,” explained TJ, one of the minds behind Lefty’s. Their menu features fare like Korn Dawgs, Bacon-Jalapeno Popper Crab Rangoons, untraditional sandwiches like Dang Bang Shrimp Burger, and even salads.

They’re planning on rebranding the entire place. Harrison’s has been the local neighborhood spot for drinks and food for the past 15 years, and it’s housed in a 125 year old building. Both the owner and the team behind Lefty’s are going to gut the place, remodel it, and “work towards bringing back the neighborhood bar that everyone talks about. We’re going to revive it,” said TJ.

The owners of Lefty’s also own Blackened Coffee Co., a vegan breakfast and coffee shop pop-up. Blackened will now have a permanent home on the weekends at Harrison’s on 3rd, too.
