Short North eatery reopens as late-night taco spot

Jack McLaughlin

Tomorrow, a Short North restaurant will complete its transformation from formal steakhouse to a hub for late-night tacos.

Santos, the new name given to the Short North eatery previously known as Chophouse 614, will hold its soft opening today, with a grand opening scheduled for April 22.

“When we bought [Chophouse 614] the original idea was to do a new concept that’s more fresh and hip, but we wanted to get to know the city and the neighborhood first,” owner and operator Shawn Shanazi said. “We want to create a concept now that keeps the same high-end decor and style, but more is more affordable.”

The rebranded space is located at 1079 N. High St.

According to Shenazi, some interior elements from Chophouse 614 will be updated, and the concept will lean more heavily into alcohol than its predecessor, remaining open late for food and drinks. Santos will continue to serve many of the steaks from the Chophouse 614 menu, although its new menu will also add burgers, culinary flatbreads, a variety of from-scratch tacos and more.
