A central Ohio cidery has made an international splash.

Seek-No-Further Cidery, the chic concept operating out of a historical Granville barn, took home some coveted hardware at the recent Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition.

The contest, which took place May 17-19 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, saw Seek-No-Further take home a gold medal in the modern-dry cider category. It was one of only 16 other gold medalists in the world in this category.

Seek-No-Further was given the award for their cider named After the GoldRush. The 7% ABV cider features juice from local GoldRush apples from Hugus Fruit Farm in Rushville, Ohio. This is then fermented to dryness and blended with juice from heritage apple varieties from New England. According to Seek-No-Further, it contains tasting notes of lemon, peach and pear.

“This was my first time working with the GoldRush variety of apple,” said Seek-No-Further’s cider maker Garrett Huber. “It has a tiny bit of residual sweetness, which brings out the fruit flavor, while maintaining as a dry cider. If anyone came into the cidery saying they are a dry white wine drinker, After the GoldRush was the first thing I gave them.”

The contest as a whole saw more than 1,400 entrants across all categories.
