This historical 1960’s Ohio cafe is preserved in time – $0.90 sandwiches and all!

Inflation, who? At Blake’s Pharmacy & Soda Shop, you can get a milkshake for $1, a scoop of ice cream for $0.40, and a cheese sandwich for $0.90 cents.

“It’s just something that we do for the community to keep it old school,” said Katie Blake, whose family has owned the pharmacy and soda shop since 1961.

Although it might sound odd to attach a soda shop to a pharmacy, it became popular in the 1950’s for people to grab their prescriptions and then head over for a light lunch. Blake’s prices and decor haven’t changed in 60 years – the shop is decorated in Coca-Cola memorabilia, old-school stools, and retro soda machines.

A stop at Blake’s is a witness to history. It’s one of the last two historic soda-jerk pharmacies in Ohio (there’s another in Vermilion), and visitors from all over the world are stopping by for a $.05 glass of Coca-Cola. “Usually we get a lot of travelers for the decor and memorabilia, and of course we have a lot of regulars that come in often,” said Katie.

Time simply stands still at this soda shop – in the sweetest way possible.
