With its use of liquid nitrogen, frothy egg whites and other newer gastronomic methods, the newly-opened Hereinafter Cocktail Tavern doesn’t shy away from modern mixology. The chic new spot, however, is still rooted in the past.

Located at 3430 N. Bank Rd. NE in Millersport, Hereinafter takes its name from a phrase found in Harry Cradock’s 1932 publication, “The Savoy Cocktail Book.” A unique mix of old and new, Hereinafter serves as a space for quality cocktails, modern Southern fare and more.

The concept, which officially opened earlier this month, adopts the Sasha Petraske method of cocktail service, a set of rules developed by Petraske, who many refer to as “the father of the modern speakeasy.”

In addition to a wide variety of interesting and inspired drinks (did we mention ice used at the new establishment is cut into glass-sized cubes from a massive 200-pound block?), patrons of Hereinafter can also enjoy a number of classic Southern dishes, including shrimp and grits, gumbo and more.

The new cocktail tavern also boasts its own retail wine shop, called Heretofore Wine Shop. The store bypasses commonly-found brands in favor of offerings from “various regions and varietals.”

Hereinafter Cocktail Tavern is open from 4 p.m. until midnight, Monday through Thursday, and from 4 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The cocktail lounge is closed Sunday.
