Popular fast food chain proposed to take over shuttered Bob Evans location

While you won’t be able to get free cherry bread or biscuits here anymore, you will still be able to order a trusty burger & fries.

The Bob Evans at 3988 E. Broad St. is proposed to transition to a “Global Next Gen” Wendy’s, which is the new, high-tech version of the Columbus-based fast food chain.

A former E. Broad St. Wendy’s shuttered years ago, and then close-by, another Wendy’s on E. Main St. also closed this past summer. When faced with the proposal, City Council members asked Wendy’s construction manager John Marth how this new particular Wendy’s would be more successful. Marth explained that this Wendy’s would be company-owned and operated, which is uncommon for most of the restaurants. The two closed locations were franchise locations, and company-owned Wendy’s only make up around 7% of the market.

The “Global Next Gen” Wendy’s could be equipped with artificial intelligence taking orders, which have already been tested at four other Columbus locations thus far. Notably, the proposed location would have separate parking spaces for delivery drivers, who could then use a delivery pick-up window, which wouldn’t be accessible for just average customers. The window would lead directly to the kitchen for easy pick-up.

As of the September 17 City Council hearing, there were no public objections to this new concept that would be taking over the former Bob Evans.
