This ‘Best You’ve Never Heard Of’ Mexican spot serves incredible authentic food & birria pizza

We’re back with another ‘Best You’ve Never Heard Of,’ and this week we’re shining the spotlight on a restaurant that has amazing birria and authentic Mexican food.

This small but mighty restaurant made a return this year after a couple of years on hiatus for remodeling, and now they’re better than ever. The cozy setup includes mostly booths, some tables, and bar seating. In 2021, Martha’s Fusion Kitchen (3331 Maize Rd) was one of the first places in Columbus where I tried birria, and they’ve perfected it. Now, with a liquor license, you can enjoy an ice-cold beer or margarita with your meal. Let’s taco bout this delicious food.

Birria is the star of the show at Martha’s. They start by dipping corn tortillas into a rich red consomé, then crisp them up on the grill and load them with slow-cooked beef marinated in a savory blend of chilies, herbs, and spices. The beef is tender, juicy, and full of flavor, but Martha’s takes it up a notch by adding melted cheese. Topped with onions and cilantro, the tacos are crispy on the outside with a juicy, spiced filling inside. Served with extra consomé for dipping and drinking, every bite is a satisfying, savory experience. Their birria is top-notch, and you can enjoy it in almost any form you can think of: pizza, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, fries, noodles, a birria bowl, and even a shrimp birria option.

But Martha’s offers more than just birria. Their tacos, served on corn tortillas, feature authentic Mexican flavors with proteins like chicken, carnitas, chorizo, asada, and pastor, all topped with cilantro and onions. My go-to tacos are the chorizo and pastor, but you can’t go wrong with any choice.

They’ve also introduced new menu items like fried shrimp, chicken tenders, and wings. I haven’t tried these yet, but I’m excited to give them a go—and they’re definitely worth a mention.

Martha’s Fusion Kitchen offers flavors and traditions of central Mexico. Their menu features a variety of classic dishes inspired by the vibrant culinary culture of Guanajuato, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

We love featuring lesser-known restaurants that deserve more attention. What hidden gems in Columbus should we showcase next?
