After opening in May, ‘mechanical modifications’ close this Cedar Point coaster for the rest of the year

The Top Thrill saga continues.

After Top Thrill 2, the upgraded new coaster inspired by the famous Top Thrill Dragster, opened in early May, the new coaster is already out of commission for some time.

According a statement made by Cedar Point late last week, due to necessary “mechanical modifications,” the ride will be closed for the rest of the year.

“Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be able to complete the modifications needed in time to reopen the coaster in 2024,” the statement reads. “We are extremely disappointed that we cannot open the ride this season, but remain committed to delivering a reliable, consistent and unparalleled coaster experience for our guests in 2025. In the meantime, please accept our sincere apology for the disappointment and inconvenience.”

This follows Top Thrill Dragster’s closure in 2022 after 10 seasons due a park guest being struck and injured by a piece of metal that fell off the ride, and a resulting lawsuit that has since been settled.
