Central Ohio woman killed by dogs while working in her garden; Two arrested

Two arrests have been made after an elderly woman in Pickaway County was allegedly killed due to a dog attack.

According to a press release from Prosecuting Attorney of Pickaway County Judy Wolford, on Oct. 17, Asheville resident JoAnn Echelbarger was attacked by two dogs outside of her Kildow Court home, where she tending to her garden.

Echelbarger was transported to Grant Hospital, but later passed away due to the injuries she sustained in the attack.

Responding Ashville Police officers shot and killed one of the two dogs–which continued to act aggressively–while the second dog escaped. Shortly afterwards, it attacked and killed another dog near the Teays Valley East Middle School.

Following an investigation, Ashville Police arrested Adam Withers, and his mother, Susan Withers, both of whom also lived on Kildow Court. They were charged with Involuntary Homicide and Failure to Retrain a Vicious Dog, both of which are felonies.
