Ohio poacher sentenced to jail, ordered to pay largest fine for deer in state history
The state of Ohio is cracking down on a white-tailed deer poacher.
According to a press release from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, Wilmington resident Christopher “CJ” Alexander was sentenced to 90 days in jail, and will be forced to pay combined fines of $43,000 for harvesting an 18-point buck and an additional deer last year.
He was given a fine of $35,071.73 for a single deer, the largest such fine in Ohio history.

“Hunting in Ohio is a time-honored tradition, and there is a proper way to be safe and successful,” Yost said in a press release. “When bad actors like these guys try to cheat the system, it ruins the reputation of Ohio’s respected sportsmen and women – I can’t stand for that.”
According to the press release Alexander was aided by multiple others, including his brothers, Corey and Zachary Haunert, and his sister, Kristina M. Alexander.
