Retail chain now closing 344 stores, 10 Ohio locations after bankruptcy; citing inflation & bad economy

A lot of people’s go-to spot for discounted snacks, furniture, home goods, and just about everything else is closing hundreds of stores nationwide, including now 10 in Ohio.

You’ve probably heard by now that the Columbus based retail chain, Big Lots, appears to be going through a tough time. After initially closing 150 last month, then closing the distribution center and laying off hundreds of employees, then filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Big Lots cited factors, “such as high inflation and interest rates that are beyond its control,” as to why they’re experiencing a loss in revenue. $700 million in just two years, in fact.

“The prevailing economic trends have been particularly challenging to Big Lots, as its core customers curbed their discretionary spending on the home and seasonal product categories that represent a significant portion of the Company’s revenue,” the company said in a press release.

The following Ohio locations are officially closing:

  • 311 Deo Drive, Newark 
  • 11372 Princeton Pike, Springdale
  • 9690 Colerain Ave, Cincinnati
  • 8576 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati
  • 7779 Tylersville Road, West Chester
  • 359 Miamisburg Centerville Road, Centerville
  • 1520 N. Clinton St, Defiance
  • 1170 Indiana Ave., Saint Marys
  • 410 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky
  • 4925 Jackman Road, Toledo
