City’s first-ever sober bar secures location, announces tentative opening date

After waiting with bated breath, we have updates on The Dry Mill, the city’s first sober bar.

The concept was first announced this summer, although owners David Payne and Collin Thomas had not secured a location for the space at that time. Now they’ve not only done that, they’ve given us a tentative opening date as well.

The Dry Mill will be located downtown, at 79 S. 4th St., Payne and Thomas announced earlier this week. They also noted that they’re targeting early 2022 as their initial opening date.

The bar will serve coffee, craft sodas, non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as a wide variety of alcohol-free beer options, many of which come from local craft beer-maker BrewDog. It will also feature food on-site, although no menu has been released.

According to Payne, the new bar will provide a space for non-drinkers to come together and socialize, but all will be welcome. “The Dry Mill will be an alcohol-free space for everyone to enjoy. There are many people who drink alcohol, but they may not want to be around that atmosphere on a particular night,” he said. “The Dry Mill will be for anyone who wants to have a good time and not be surrounded by alcohol.”
