After nearly 20 years, East Side spot for pho and other Vietnamese eats rebranding as bubble tea, dessert shop

Indochine Cafe has served as a popular destination for lovers of pho and more on the city’s East Side since 2005, but soon the eatery will jettison its former menu and undertake a new operation entirely.

Beginning Jan. 30, Indochine Cafe will become Racha Tea Boba and Desserts. It had previously closed dine-in services last year to renovate its interior, which is just the first step of its large-scale rebrand.

Racha Tea will serve primarily as a bubble tea and Vietnamese dessert shop, according to a statement issued by Indochine Cafe owners on Jan. 21.

While the old menu will be discontinued alongside Indochine Cafe’s closure after service on Jan. 29, Racha Tea will be serving a smaller selection savory of Vietnamese eats to complement its boba and dessert.

“Sadly, we will not be selling any of popular hot dishes like the pho or stir-fries, but we will still have other items such as our bahn mis, egg rolls, and spring-rolls,” the statement reads.

The rebrand will partially serve as a way to transition ownership from founders Amp and Phuong Mai to their children, although Amp and Phuong still plan to be present at the updated spot “from time to time.”

Racha Tea will be a formally carryout eatery, and no dine-in space will be offered.
