Iconic Columbus sandwich shop to close after over a decade of service

Columbus diners will have just over three more months to enjoy a perennially popular local sandwich spot before it shutters for good.

Early yesterday, Neighbor’s Deli owner Jon Snyder told 614NOW that the eatery will close permanently on May 21.

Neighbor’s Deli is located at 2142 W. Henderson Rd., in the Upper Arlington area.

The move will likely not come as a surprise to diehard Neighbor’s fans, as Snyder had seriously mulled closure throughout 2021.

“I tried to stick it out, but after looking at my yearly food costs from 2021 and now seeing yet more increases on top of that this year, it’s just not something I can sustain,” Snyder said.

He also cited staffing shortages and supply chain issues as serious issues in an interview with 614NOW late last year regarding his decision to keep Neighbor’s open at that time.

Snyder said he was often juggling up to 80 hour work weeks, and reliable help was difficult to come by.

This may not be the last we’ve seen of Snyder’s sandwiches, however, as he stated operating a Neighbor’s Deli food truck on the side is a possibility, although there are no concrete plans for this in the immediate future.

Well-known for its massive portions and no-frills interior, Neighbor’s Deli has been serving sandwiches since the eatery opened more than a decade ago on the city’s Northwest Side.
