Popular smash burger kitchen closes pop-up, eyeing potential brick and mortar spaces

Smash Brothers Sliders opened its first ever kitchen space in the Ohio Taproom late last year to immediate popularity, selling out of burgers every night they were open. While their time at the taproom has come to an end, the already-popular burger spot is making big plans for the future.

Smash Brothers Sliders officially ended its run at the Ohio Taproom, where it operated a pick-up and delivery only eatery, over the weekend. 

“We launched Smash Brothers Sliders as a “pop-up” for the last 12 weeks to see if people liked our food, and to see what it was like to run an entirely online, digital focused food business. The support was overwhelming, and one final sell-out last night was an incredible way to end our run with @theohiotaproom. Each of the Smash Brothers got 1 last slider at the end of the night, and then the fridges were EMPTY,” Smash Brothers said in a statement posted to its Instagram account.

And while their time running out of the Ohio Taproom means Columbus won’t be able to enjoy their smash burger sliders for some time, according to co-owner Sam O’Brien, the eatery is already on the hunt for potential new locations.

Exactly what the new iteration of Smash Brothers will be hasn’t been determined yet, but the concept will be back, O’Brien said. One of the options being explored it the possibility of a brick and mortar space. 

If this does come to fruition, though, he noted the location will have its own Smash Brothers twist.

“No matter the next step, it probably won’t be a traditional brick and mortar that people are used to with a dining room,” he said. “We’re looking at options to make the best takeout and delivery experience possible, so we’re looking into some unique spaces and options.”

O’Brien noted that Smash Brothers has invested heavily in the delivery and takeout experience from day one, by opting for high-end packaging and creating food that was tested to stay fresh during the delivery window.
