Star Columbus chef Avishar Barua’s anticipated new restaurant has officially opened

Less than a year after opening his wildly-popular eatery in Worthington, Joya’s, beloved Columbus chef Avishar Barua is heating up the Brewery District food scene with another new concept.

Agni, the name of Barua’s chic new live-fire eatery, officially opened to the public yesterday. The new eatery is located 716 S. High St., in the former home of Ambrose & Eve.

Although the eatery initially went live yesterday, Agni later posted an update to its Instagram that its reservation system is currently down, but should be back up soon.

Barua told (614)Now in an interview last year that the new eatery will feature a diverse menu that’s unified by the age-told idea of cooking with flame.

“Using fire like this allows us to create all different styles of food,” he said. “Almost every culture has food that’s prepared this way.”

Barua said he also plans to borrow elements from the Midwestern tradition of backyard barbecues and his own Bengali-American roots to create the new eatery.

The former “Top Chef” contestant’s new concept is one of several new Columbus spots leaning into live-fire dining. FYR opened in the Columbus Hilton Downtown tower last year, and B.J. Lieberman of Chapman’s Eat Market will open his flame-inspired spot, Hiraeth, in the Short North soon.
